Treat Prostate Symptoms With Alfuzosin Generic

Alfuzosin contains Alfuzosin Hydrochloride as its active ingredient. The drug is used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as enlarged prostate or BPH. It relaxes the muscles in the patient’s prostate and bladder neck, which leads to reduction in the symptoms of BPH, such as urgency and frequency to urinate, difficulty beginning the flow of urine, weak stream of urine and urinating several times during the night. Although it is effective in relaxing muscles, it cannot be used for the treatment of high blood pressure. In certain cases, this drug can be prescribed to pass kidney stones through the urine stream.

How Alfuzosin works

Prostate gland is present on top of a tube which connects your bladder to the urethra. As you age, this gland enlarges in size and starts pressing the urethra. This leads to obstruction in the urine flow, and result in difficulty urinating or stopped urination altogether. Alfuzosin Hydrochloride works by blocking alpha receptors in the prostate gland muscles, thereby relaxing the muscles and allowing urine to pass through freely.

Alfuzosin dosage

For the treatment of enlarged prostate symptoms, you will have to take one Alfuzosin 10mg tablet once per day after food. In order to keep its level constant in your body, try to take it after the same meal everyday. The drug is available in the form of extended release tablets. You must not break, chew, crush or dissolve it. You need to swallow them whole. The drug may cause dizziness, you should avoid doing any such activity that needs you to be completely alert, such as operating a machine or driving a vehicle. In order to deal with this side effect of the drug, your doctor will usually advise you to take your Alfuzosin dosage at bed time.

Grapefruit can increase the absorption of the drug in your blood stream, which can lead to its overdose. Therefore, your doctor will advise you to avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice during treatment with this drug. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully, and consult with him or her before altering or stopping its dosage. Stopping the medication suddenly can lead to severe reactions.
